Almond Chocolate Milkshake

Comments Off on Almond Chocolate Milkshake

Inspired by my brother’s want for a milkshake from Red Robin last week, I had healthy milkshakes on my mind all weekend and wanted to see if my own advice could stand up. I had suggested that for far less calories you could make the milkshake at home.
After a great weekend, Phil and I decided tonight sounded like a good night to experiment. So after dinner, I went for a run. I did have to earn that dessert 😉 . …

Recipe to Try: Herbed Turkey Meatball Subs

Comments Off on Recipe to Try: Herbed Turkey Meatball Subs

Earlier this week, I was flipping through my pile of recipes.
Yes, literally, it’s currently a pile on our kitchen table. (**Phil, I will be organizing and cleaning it up soon, I promise).
I love digging through food magazines and looking for good recipes to try and experiment with. A bonus if it’s lower in calories and yet has an interesting flavor profile. Love it when they show me how to combine different herbs and spices to kick up the taste.
In the …

Adventures in Baking Apple Pie

5

A couple weekends ago, I baked my very first pie. I would have documented such a monumental event sooner but I had some very important events interrupt my posting – my birthday, my parents visiting, a birthday party hosted by Phil’s parents, and more. It was a crazy, busy couple of weeks. But, let’s get onto the good news.
My pie tasted fantastic. Even my mom said so. She said if I baked like this and Phil cooked as well as …

A Most Wonderful, Happy, Birthday Dinner

Comments Off on A Most Wonderful, Happy, Birthday Dinner

Last night reminded me of why I am the luckiest girl in the world. For my 31st birthday, yes I am firmly cemented in my 30s now, Phil prepared another beyond amazing meal (last year it was a baked potato, broccoli, and filet mignon). I was speechless. Quite a feat for me. I just couldn’t believe the meal he made. He found the biggest, best tasting scallops ever at Whole Foods. They were almost a pound! He then made this …

Homemade Italian Wedding Soup

1

Perhaps this post should be titled “I love Kale” or “Girl Falls in Love with Kale” or “Thank Goodness Fall is Back So We Can Enjoy Soup Again.” Either way, I asked Phil this past weekend to pick us up some kale because I have been loving it lately. Plus, as a bonus, it’s a super cheap vegetable. At Whole Foods, it was 2 big bunches for $3 or at Publix, a big bag was only $2.
Then, I asked Phil …

Cranberry Bean Pasta Fagioli

Comments Off on Cranberry Bean Pasta Fagioli

Flipping through my new Food Network magazine, an Italian soup recipe caught my eye. Pasta Fagioli!
In the past, I have loved loved ordering this soup in Italian restaurants. It has such a great combination of flavors between the veggies, pasta, beans, and meat. I mostly followed the recipe but with a few shortcuts and substitutions. Variations are marked with an asterisk. You didn’t think I’d follow the recipe exactly did you? I knew I wanted to include a leaner good …

Riojas Patatas

2

This story starts out with a boy and a girl who travel to Chicago and fall in love with a restaurant called Cafe Iberico. This restaurant, a Spanish Tapas place, is somewhat dark inside but quite animated no matter if it’s a Thursday or Sunday night. People gather here, order plate after plate of delectable Spanish cuisine, and conversate over pitchers of sangria. On the second visit, they order a dish. This dish is one of the last to be …

Baked Green Tomatoes!

2

Phil came up with a genius of a recipe. This post is all in honor of his wonderful new creation. He turned something I recently discovered as a favorite taste into a more healthier version. You see, here’s a secret about me, until a couple years ago, I could not eat tomatoes. I could only eat them in small cut up pieces as part of a larger recipe. I did not like the taste. But then something magical happened to …
